The 4th edition of the Musica Genera Festival will take place on the 27th, 28th and 29th of May, 2005 in Szczecin (Poland). In the past we used many locations around the city for festival events. Following tradition, the main happenings will be hosted at the Kana Theater. Due to success of the Lasztownia Island last year, we will be using this site again for additional late nite concerts, presentations and installations. The Operahouse within the Castle also becomes a new venue for the festival. Presentations of the Musica Genera Festival started with a focus on free improvised idiom. Our featured artists were placed into specially formed ensembles unique to this festival. Gradually we started enhancing its spectrum by more extreme performers, presenting concrete music as well as noise. In 2004 the festival touched into the relation of improvisation with compositional structures. This year's festival changes its subtitle to the International Festival of Improvised and Experimental Music, and concentrates on the phenomena of contemporary experiment. Improvised music is still an underlying theme of the festival, however, its role is not dominant. The MGF 2005 will present a variety of excellent individuals, some of which are icons within their specializations. Kevin Drumm, Peter Rehberg, Keith Rowe and Jerome Noetinger are all entities which illustrate new directions in contemporary music. In addition to these artists we will see performances by Kasper T. Toeplitz, Janek Schaefer, Philip Jeck and Stephan Mathieu, who represent composed approaches to experimental music. There will also be talented improvisers such as: Thomas Lehn, Ingar Zach, Ignaz Schick, Ute Volker and Ivar Grydeland. To complete the spectrum are also a few musicians who wander on the edge of styles, such as Jean Pallandre, Wolfram, Anna Zaradny, Ignaz Schick and Robert Piotrowicz. New features of the festival will include some experimental audiovisual projects. A French group composed of Jerome Noetinger, Xavier Quérel and Laurent Berger will present an immense audio visual spectacle (Noetinger and Quérel make up the famous collective Metamkine). There will also be a few smaller projects in the festival, to include audio visual installations by Philip Jeck, Paweł Kula and Johannes Bergmark. Finally, there will be the presentation of the DVD film label INDEX, run by Isabelle Piechaczyk. __________________ PROGRAMM friday 27 may 2005 _________________________________________ 20:00 - Kana Theater, pl. św.
