Musica Genera Festival 2008 is the seventh instalment of the international forum for contemporary experimental music and sound art. Drawing from different contexts and aesthetics is the tradition of the festival. The main goal of MGF is presenting the music of the moment, an up-to-date picture that not only the media, but even artistic circles fail to fully comprehend. Contemporary experimental music has become a hermetic grey area, still associated with the pioneers of sound explorations. Lack of appropriate terminology makes it very difficult to define phenomena that compose it and to build a system of classification. Music that has developed for over 50 years, cannot still be experimental just by its sheer existence. It is such when related to the mainstream, contemporary academic or pop music. MFG 2008 features a comprehensive survey of "experimental" in contemporary music. Gathering artists of different aesthetics and concepts, it shows the common ground, on which today's sound artists operate. The festival focuses on the art whose medium is the sound, leaving the conception of "music" open, and always ready to embrace more essence within its meaning. Our art is the sound, free, autonomous and beautiful.
